If you’ve narrowed down your next bow case option to an SKB, then you’ve made a great choice. From there, it’s about choosing the top SKB bow case that’s right for you. Of course, each individual has there own personal preferences, and that’s what we’re going to help with.
I’ve spent time personally reviewing these 4 picks right out of the box to examine the pros and cons of each of them. I also have direct experience using one of these bow cases for several years (scroll down to find out which one). As mentioned earlier, SKB is a great option when it comes to bow cases, and I know this from carrying their gear in and out of the woods for years.
The blog below summarizes 4 of the top bow cases (in my opinion) and quickly showcases their top features, their best and worst qualities, and a few options on where you can purchase them. We hope you enjoy the blog, and it helps you narrow down the best case for you.
SKB Bow Case Comparison Table
The comparison table below summarizes the top 4 SKB picks Shoot Big Bucks chose for you!
Best SKB Bow Case For The Traveling Hunter
SKB iSeries 3614 Parallel Limb Bow Case
The SKB 3614 is our top pick for traveling hunters as many of it’s best features showcase ease-of-use, as well as protection from the elements no matter where or how you’re moving the case.
First, it’s important to recognize the fact that SKB equipped this case with an Ambient Pressure Equalization Valve which is essential for anyone traveling via flights. The case is also Waterproof and Dust-Proof, which means you can leave it in the back of your truck (for limited amounts of time) and feel at ease. This is especially important for individuals who might not have the cab room, or a bed cover to protect their bow from outside elements.
Lastly, for those traveling in unknown areas, this case offers additional security with padlock holes that include stainless steel padlock protector clips. The case also gives every hunter minimal carrying issues with the tough in-line wheels and comfortable, cushion grip handles.
Key Features:
- Lifetime warranty and $1500 content coverage
- Waterproof and dust tight design, with ambient pressure equalization valve
- Stainless steel padlock protector clips
- Quiver compartment and accessory box compartments
- Durable wheels for easy transport
What’s My Take:
The SKB 3614 bow case is a little pricey at $300, but still a less expensive option when compared to the SKB Rev2 or the Pelican 1745. All three of these case can be categorized within the Highest Level – Top Performance sector. I say this because each model can be looked at as more than just a bow case – it’s essentially a full gear case as they neatly organize every archery accessory you might have.
All in all, if you want to pick a top tier case, but still need to keep an eye on how much it’s going to cost I would suggest the SKB 3614. You not only receive SKB’s highest technological features, but you remain under a $400 price point.
What I Like / Dislike…
Like:
- The proprietary blend of plastics makes it 2.8x stronger than many comparable cases.
- The easy-to-open latches allow you to quickly open and close the case, even with gloves on.
- The gasket seal allows air to easily flow in and out, while dust and moisture remain outside.
Dislike:
- The width measurements are a little tight for those that like to leave their stabilizer on, or who have a lengthy sights attached.
- The foam cut-out is a little too generic of shape, and does not closely secure your bow in the case.
- All accessories are sold separately.
Best SKB Bow Case For Value Shoppers
SKB Hunter Series 4117 Bow Case
The SKB Hunter Series 4117 bow case is our pick for the best SKB value case because it’s $200 price point includes notable features such as an ABS Shell, Lockable Metal Latches, and Secure Storage for your bow and accessories.
As you can tell by the comparison chart above, this is the cheapest SKB option from our picks at Shoot Big Bucks. However, while it’s definitely not SKB’s most inexpensive option, it provides a ton of value at a very reasonable cost.
Judging by the many online reviews from hunters and competitive archers, the 4117 bow case offers incredible durability that will protect your case from any day-to-day impact (within reason).
However, we think it’s very important to note that this case is not waterproof. Individuals have noted that if the case is left outside, especially with the opening face up, you might experience water entering the inside. I think this is important to point out that while it’s an extremely value orientated case, you’re going to sacrifice a few things, and this is one of them.
Key Features:
- Tough and rigid ABS shell
- Airline approved and impact resistant with heavy-duty latches
- Plush and scratch resistant interior lining
- Comfortable carrying handle
What’s My Take:
Overall, I think the SKB 4177 bow case is a true middle-of-the-road option for experienced archers that are not interested in emptying their wallets. Because of this, I would not recommend purchasing this case if you do an extensive amount of traveling, especially via plane. Unfortunately, it just does not have the required features to safely transport your bow even though it’s airline approved.
Outside of this, if you’re looking for a large volume case that will hold your bow with quiver attached, this might be the right fit for you. After researching this feature, I couldn’t find another case that offers such a solution, which I was somewhat surprised by. Furthermore, you still get a SKB quality case at around $200 which is quite a deal.
One Thing To Note: This bow case is the model I used from 2018-2021, and the second bow case I’ve ever used. My first was the Plano Protector Series bow case, which I used for close to 10 years. This bow case was a great stepping stone as it provided quality protection and a lightweight design at a somewhat affordable price. Since then, I’m moved onto the Pelican 1745 case as I’ve wanted to test this model out for quite some time.
What I Like / Dislike…
Like:
- Large catch-all shape that lets you keep your quiver and arrows attached while in the case.
- Reasonably priced design that keeps most debris out.
- Metal latches provide a sturdy, traditional locking system for those that do not prefer plastic.
Dislike:
- Individual arrow inserts are located on the bottom of the case and close to the strings.
- At 15″ in width, it’s one of SKBs largest cases which might make it difficult to store in certain places.
- The 5 year warranty is much lower than many of their other cases.
- Not waterproof or water resistant.
Best SKB Case For Hunters With Lengthier Bows (And Money)
SKB iSeries REV2 Plush Large Parallel Limb Bow Case
When it comes to the SKB iSeries REV2 Large bow case, you’re witnessing a case that was designed especially for bows with a much longer axle-to-axle. For this very reason, we chose this model as the best option for anyone with a lengthier style compound bow.
Of course, it’s important to note that this bow case was also designed for someone that’s looking for the best SKB has to offer. Besides the iSeries 4178-9, which is basically two cases in one, you’re not really going to find another case from SKB with as many features. And as you’d expect you’re going to pay for these features too.
Keep in mind, like anything out there, there’s a demand for high-quality hunting gear like KUIU, Yeti, Matthews, etc. and people are willing to spend the money. Of course, when Pelican first began testing this out with their 1745 Air Long Case, it was only fitting for SKB to release something similar. Now, we have SKB’s REV2 line which offer hunters a final solution when it comes to a bow case that will last a lifetime.
Key Features:
- Lengthy interior design
- Built to military grade standards
- Custom designed arrow holder
- Lifetime warranty and $1500 content coverage
What’s My Take:
Bow case companies often forget about hunters who prefer bows with a shorter brace height and longer axle-to-axle combination. For this reason, I’m a fan of the SKB REV2 large bow case as it provides something that’s unique to a subset of hunters.
While this bow has almost every top feature SKB has to offer, I’m just not a fan of the plush-lined interior. Although the straps securely keep the bow in place, I still gravitate towards cases with some sort of additional foam lining that hugs the bow from numerous touch points. While this bow case will no doubt protect your bow from almost anything, I think it’s about personal preference when it comes down to this one feature.
What I Like / Dislike…
Like:
- Fits bows up to 41.25″ so it’s great for non-compact compounds.
- Lid storage provides enough room for additional gear.
- The REV2 lineup offers military standard protection with no sacrifices.
Dislike:
- At over $500, it’s one of SKB’s most expensive options.
- Only available with a plush-lined interior – not high-density foam.
- Both the quiver, arrow, and accessory boxes are sold separately.
Best SKB Case For A Hybrid Solution
The SKB Hybrid 4115 bow case is one of the most unique bow cases on this list, and one that deserves a few minutes in the spotlight. Since the case has a hard shell interior wrapped in a rugged 600 denier ballistic nylon exterior, we chose it as our perfect hybrid solution.
Looking inside the case, you’ll notice that the bow is held in place by two straps that sit right below the limbs, and on top of the riser. Similar to the previous REV2 model mentioned above, this case features a plush-lined interior that wraps around the interior without molding to the bow. This feature is one that should be heavily evaluated as it’s quite different than many other foam interior options.
Moving onto the exterior, the storage compartments are on the outside of the case – similar to that of many soft cases. Again, there are pros and cons to this as they are easily accessible, but might be exposed to water, dust, and moisture if left outside. The picture showcases a zoomed in look at the exterior storage compartments.
Key Features:
- Hybrid soft/hard case design
- Four external pockets
- Interior length of 41″ makes it great for longer compound bows
- SKB soft case 1 year warranty
What’s My Take:
The hybrid style case is a very unique option, and one that offers the best of both worlds. If you enjoy the security and protection of a hard case, but want the feel and lightweight design of a soft case, then SKB might have hit the nail right on the head.
Of course, whenever you have a hybrid product you tend to sacrifice things from both sides as well. The 4115 hybrid case doesn’t offer quite the same level of impact protection when compared to their other hard case models. Furthermore, with it still being a hard case, you don’t get the space saving feature offered from many soft cases.
I think this model is engineered for someone who wants to find the balance between soft and hard cases, and is willing to do away with a few features to save some money.
What I Like / Dislike…
Like:
- Reasonably priced for a hybrid-style case that offers a good amount of interior space.
- Exterior storage for miscellaneous gear that will not interfere with a bow.
- Additional shoulder straps included if you prefer to carry the case without solely relying on a handle.
Dislike:
- No interior storage compartments.
- Only available with a plush-lined interior – not high-density foam.
- Minimal (2) straps keep the bow securely in place.
- Zipper full enclosure is durability concern.
In Conlusion
We hope the options above give you a better understanding of the top SKB bow cases available on the market today. Of course, SKB offers quite a few more bow cases than just these 4, but you have to start somewhere. Overall, we’re confident that if you decide to purchase an SKB, you’re going to be more than satisfied with your choice. Good luck this upcoming season!
