Why Are Hunting Items So Cheap After Hunting Season?
The simple answer to that is they want them off of the shelves. The sporting goods section at Walmart is seasonal. During hunting season, you’ll find way more hunting gear than in the middle of summer. During summer, you’ll see more camping and fishing gear compared to the winter time. Because of this, they make room on the shelves for the current season. This is the perfect opportunity for you to scoop up some amazing deals for your next hunting season.
How Much Of A Discount Will Stores Sell Hunting Gear After Season?
As I write this today February 1st, 2021, I bought 30 items at Walmart for $70 before taxes. The retail price of these items came out to $253.64. That is right around a 72% discount. Starting mid-January, I cruise back to the sporting goods section every time I’m in Walmart just to check if they start having these crazy sales.
How Will I Know When Walmart Discounts These Hunting Items?
The gear that gets discounted will be easy to spot. They will have a large yellow price tag with “Clearance” plain as day on it. It will show the clearance price in the upper right-hand corner. The retail price will be in the lower left-hand corner. Most of them say “was $14.97” for example. This means that during the hunting season, or as little as 3 weeks ago, I would have paid $14.97 for a can of Nose Jammer but today I only paid $5.

Over the years, I’ve found that scent control and scent attractants are always always on clearance at Walmart. Today alone, I got the following:

When Should I Start Looking For These Discounts?
All of the dates on these discounted items have the new price tags at the end of January. I highly recommend you taking a lap through the sporting goods section every time you’re in Walmart starting mid-January. The same goes for Turkey season. A few weeks after turkey season closes, go to the sporting goods section and score yourself some discounted calls, decoys, chairs etc..
